SAT 13TH FEB LUKES SOUTHEND SPECIAL
Southend Academy 2-3 Chigwell Sat 13th Feb 2010
What a day! Jordans brother Luke (Wales u16 and ex Arsenal academy Goalkeeper) signed his first professional contract today and the team turned out in full support. Luke was introduced to the Southend crowd at half time during their league one game against Tranmere and we all thoroughly enjoyed being there to give our support to such a good lad. It has to be said although this was a great afternoon it was somewhat overshadowed by the mornings events! (apologies Luke).
We were fortunate to be invited to play Southends U11s academy team, despite a slow and understandably nervous start, which saw us 2-0 down within 20 minutes, Chigwell showed their character and turned the game around to finish victorious winning 3-2 over the 80 minutes (4 times 20 mins) . This was a great learning curve as the whole team had to step up a gear or two and adjust to the quicker pace of the game, the movement on and off the ball was something as a team we have never had to deal with before, but gradually the boys started to come to terms with it and each and everyone rose to the challenge.
This was a tremendous experience for all involved and on behalf of everyone I would like to say a big thank you to Luke's parents Nigel and Lyn for organising and allowing us to be part of this special day, perhaps fittingly Lukes brother Jordan chose today to give his best performance to date in a Chigwell shirt earning him Man of the Match.

All the boys were bitterly disappointed to have come away as runners up in their first ever 11 a side tournament, to play 100 minutes of football and only concede one goal shows the strength and quality of the whole team, Shame it happened to be the winning goal in the Final!

ALL THE BOYS THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE EXPERIENCE OF PLAYING ON THE PREMIER LEAGUE WEST HAM UTD PITCH.

THEY FLEW THROUGH THE GROUP STAGE ONLY TO DISAPPOINTINGLY LOSE OUT IN THE QUARTER FINAL. HOPEFULLY THIS DIDNT SPOIL THE MEMORY OF THE DAY, HIGHLIGHTS BEING A TOUR OF THE DRESSING ROOM, WALKING OUT ON TO THE PITCH THROUGH THE PLAYERS TUNNEL AND OF COURSE PLAYING ON THE PICH ITSELF.
