| Chigwell Girls U13's 2010-2011 Match Reports
Sunday 17th April 11 - League
Chigwell 2 - Romford Borough 2
On
what was a really beautiful day to be playing Romford Borough
(Again) at our lovely home ground, this game can only be described as a
true credit to girls football. I can HONESTLY say both myself, Barry
and the other husband and wife team of Romford were all proud in the
spirit that was shown in this game from both sets of players.
With Romford pushing for a win to guarantee promotion and all ready
having beat us twice already this season, Chigwell girls decided that
this was not going to count for anything on the day and from the first
whistle this game was played at a blustering pace.
Chigwell were all over the field and did not show any signs of being in
awe of Romford who to their credit have done very well this
season. (Also believe they did actually get their promotion due to other
results that came in later in the day, so many congratulations to the
Management and Girls of Romford Borough)
From Holly in goal who was absolutely brilliant, defence, midfield and
of course our 2 little whippets Jen and Harley up front we were
brilliant and showed true grit, determination and passion from all over
the pitch which at times we have lacked this season.
We had several chances in the first half but we eventually went in all sqaure at half time.
Half Time - Chigwell 0 - Romford Borough 0
With a much needed breather during the 15 minute break, could not
believe that the second half started off just the same as the first and
both sides were certainly fired up and going for a win, but for the
first time this season against these opponents it was Chigwell to draw
first blood with Jen Randall taking her chance and the girls and parents
were highly delighted and to be honest it was no more than Chigwell
deserved.
To Romford's credit they are not in their position for nothing and they
dug in and equalised within a couple of mins and then hit another quick
second goal to put them at an advantage but Chigwell's heads did not
drop once and they fought tirelessly and got their just reward with
another goal coming from Jen.
To the final whilstle this game was brilliant and as I said earlier was a great advert for this fast growing sport.
Full Time: Chigwell 2 - Romford Borough 2
Team: Higgins (GK + Captain), Carey, Porter, Stickland, Beechey, Randall, Brown, Long, Sheridan, Rodgers. Man
of the Match - Holly Higgins - What can I say Hols, you excelled
yourself and put it a great, GREAT performance and stepped in to save
the day for us.
Final Comments / Special Comments - Where do I start ? This was so good to see and I know that the opposition felt the same.
Girls we just felt so proud of you as our team and as silly as it sounds
you played so well as a team. I saw things today that I haven't seen
for a while and although I don't want to keep repeating myself it was
just a fine performance.
Holly, well it was all said on the day and all been said as above for
you matey, Olivia thought you played outstandingly and was rock solid
and mature in her game, Baylee showed so much fight and stood up when
needed, the midfield of Charlotte, Neamh, Hannah, Ella and also Lauren
(the youngest in the team) when she came on, all solid and creative and
then you have Jen and Harley, great to see those two working so well
together forming a lovely little duo up front. BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT,
BRILLIANT. Have to mention Neamh + Charlotte with the headers that were
coming in at every opportunity.
GIRLS WAS A PLEASURE TODAY AND GOOD LUCK FOR OUR LAST GAME ON THE 1ST OF MAY
Sunday 10th April 11 - League
Chigwell 3 - Corringham Cosmos 0
On can what only be described as a really lovely day, we were finally at home for a return match with Corringham Cosmos.
Last time we played them we lost heavily but we all knew that for some
reason that day nothing worked and the team really wasn't themselves, so
after much team talk prior to kick off the girls were looking to avenge
this defeat.
Within no time, Chigwell were looking good and the passing, heading (yes
that includes you Baylee), tackling etc was all first rate and once
again proved that on their day this group of girls are capable of
anything.
Harley Jo put us up 1 - nil, with Jen quick to follow with another and
then Harley again to make it 3-0 at half time, but believe me this
could've quite easily have been five - nil at least with close misses
from Jen + Ella.
Half time - Chigwell 3 - Corringham Cosmos 0
The second half Chigwell did not have as much play as they did in the
first half but I think it's more than fair to say that they were still
dictating play and with some crunching tackles coming from Olivia who
played much more like her normal self and combined with fine work that
came from Baylee and then Lauren it was great to keep a clean sheet.
However we just did not manage to capitalise on our goal tally, despite
great work coming from all over the pitch and the team playing as a
team.
The only down thing of the day really was to see a couple of our girls
picking up some injuries and we wish Neamh + Ella all the best.
Full time - Chigwell 3 - Corringham Cosmos 0
Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey (Captain), Porter, Stickland, Beechey, Randall, Brown, Long, Sheridan, Higgins, Dunne + Rodgers.
Men of the Match - Jen Randall (Great Work Rate) + Baylee Porter (Fine Work), but could also say the whole team.
Final Comments - Very, very difficult on this day to define anyone
in particular as felt the girls just pulled together from all over the
pitch and even when the substitutions were made which was quite a lot as
quite draining in these warm conditions everyone just seemed to adapt,
really could list everyone for something in particular but all I can say
is this was great girls and long may it continue.
Sunday 3rd April 11 - League Romford Borough 5 - Chigwell 1 Well even though we lost this game, I think it's fair to say that this really was a good performance from the girls and they really battled it all the way. With a full strength squad the girls really got stuck in and I personally thought were passing the ball around nicely again, however much in form Romford had their scoring boots on again and their goal fest continued. Saying this Chigwell had their chances again but we just do not seem to be converting these when they are here for us.
Baylee Porter did well in a changed position playing at the back with Liv and also Harley Jo was here there and everywhere again, however have to say the highlight for most of us in this game was to see Charlotte Brown score her first (Allowed) goal of the season and when it went in you would've thought we had won the game. Well done Charlotte. Also Neamh Stickland played well in midfield. Full time - Romford Borough 5 - Chigwell 1 (Charlotte Brown) Team: Sullivan, Carey, Porter, Stickland (Captain), Beechey , Randall, Brown, Sheridan, Long, Dunne, Higgins, McAuliffe, Rodgers.
Man of the Match - Neamh Stickland - Well done
Special Mentions: Girls and parents even thought this has to be one of my shortest write ups ever have to say that both myself and Barry were really pleased with the way the girls played and I just know if we keep training hard and pulling together with the spirit in this team it will come right and we will be back on a winning streak. Just stick with it girls and we will push on, we are right behind you and believe in you totally. Watching them in training last night, the passing was outstanding and goals were flying in so let's just convert this to the match day environment.
Sunday 20th March 11 - League Upland Rangers 6 - Chigwell 3 If ever there was a game of two halves (AGAIN) this one has to qualify. Our girls came out in the first half and was playing such good football, I actually think the other team did not know what had hit them and within no time at all Harley Jo who was on fire hit the first goal for Chigwell. With a bit of confidence flowing in the side, our team was looking so good it really was like the team had been replaced from the week before. Ella, Neamh, Hannah and Charlotte were looking good in midfield and Lauren was assisting Olivia at the back who really was still struggling but could not face the fact of not being involved on the day and with this strong confident play Jen hit the second and the girls were 2 nil up. Uplands who were never to be under estimated grabbed one back but our girls quickly nabbed another which was a bit of a scramble and believe was actually an own goal but the attacking football we were playing was a real sight to see, however have to say with so many chances that hit the cross bar and went wide we really should have finished this game off in the first half and we need to learn from this, these chances need to be taken because they can make all the difference as we went on to find out ! Uplands grabbed another and it was 3-2 on the half time whilstle and this could've quite easily have been 3-3 but Baylee Porter literally cleared off the line and gave us the advantage. Half Time Upland Rangers 2 - Chigwell 3 With some changes made to the Chigwell nine, it was Uplands who drew first blood in the second half and were 3-3 all in no time and I think it's fair to say Chigwell seem to panic and then in went the 4th for Uplands who were ahead for the first time in the game as opposed to Chigwell who had squandered a two goal lead twice! Olivia who had put up a brave performance at the back needed to come off and in all honesty probably should not have played but gave it her all and the team needed to be re-arranged again. Uplands kept pushing and with their chances well taken by their number 11 who was outstanding on the day knocked in the 5th and 6th and the game was beyond us although we did push until the end. Full time - Upland Rangers 6 - Chigwell 3 Team: Sullivan, Carey, Rodgers, Stickland, Beechey , Randall(Captain), Brown, Sheridan, Long, Higgins, Porter.
Man of the Match - Harley Jo Long - Well done Harley, thought you played out of your skin and showed maturity with your football beyond your years.
Special Mentions: Thought our midfield of Hannah, Neamh + Charlotte did ever so well and Ella you are improving with every game, so good to see your eagerness for the game and to learn. Although this was a very disappointing result considering we had the lead twice, the football in the first half was very impressive and gave us a lot to think about, we just need to keep our concentration and I'm not joking when I say you could beat anyone on the day if you played the way you all did in the first half. Olivia, thank you for your dedication and determination and Hannah hope your knee gets better real soon because you were a real credit today. Girls let's take something from this game because first half you were awesome and proved you can do it.
Sunday 13th March 11 - League Corringham Cosmos 5 - Chigwell 0 After watching the girls train on a beautiful spring morning with a Dagenham + Redbridge Youth Coach (Photo's to follow) and seeing them passing and doing themselves and us proud the day before, what can I say about this match against Corringham Cosmos.! The girls looked jaded from the off in my opinion and did no way reselmble the group I had seen train only 24 hrs prior. Olivia was struggling terribly at the back with a knee injury but struggled on until the first half whistle went when we went in 1-0 down which came from an own goal. The only real 2 chances that were created were from Hannah Beechey with a cracking shot on goal and was really unlucky and Olivia who nearly knocked it in from a corner kick again. Saying that it was a lack lustre first 35 mins and there was just no spark or 'Cheeky Chigwellness' if that makes sense. (Probably not, but for those that were there I am sure they will know what I mean) Half Time C. Cosmos 1 - Chigwell 0 With the team needing to be re-arranged with girls playing in positions that they are not used to due to us missing 3 regular players as well Livs coming off too this was always going to be a difficult half but it was I have to say the worst performance I had seen from the girls and it was only in the last 10 mins that they dug their heels in and starting to put up a fight but it was too late and on the final whistle we had gone down 5-0. Full time - Corringham Cosmos 5 - Chigwell 0 Team: Sullivan, Carey, Stickland, Beechey , Randall, Brown (Captain) , Sheridan, Higgins, Porter, McAuliffe. Special Mentions: Would like to mention Erin Sullivan who had a difficult task today and just to say you did what you could Erin and remember you are doing the best you can, being a goalkeeper is never easy and we are so glad that you stepped in and saved the day when you did and only hope you continue to grow and enjoy your time with us. Also though Jen battled it upto the end, well done. Also get fit soon Olivia, you have had a great season thus far and no need to say anymore. Girls, we really need to get stuck in now and finish this season off how we started it, when there was belief in the team and not just individuals, let's have it !!!!!
Sunday 27th February 11 League Barking Ladies 2 - Chigwell 2 When people say this is a strange old game, that has got to be an understatment for this fixture! Out to face Barking for the second time this season in what I suppose is a bit of a 'derby' match for us, the girls were in good spirit and certainly ready considering on our last outing against them we knocked in 6 goals. Within no time Harley Jo managed to knock in a fine goal to put us one up although it would be fair to say Barking were also putting the pressure on with some strong corners flying in. This actually resulted in Barking equalising with an unfortunate own goal flying in, so all sqaure. The girls were passing the ball around nicely and their football was looking good but unfortunately again another strong corner kick came in and a penalty was conceeded. After a fine save from our goalie Erin, the ref decided to let Barking re-take as he wasn't ready first time? and although she came very close this time the ball crossed the line. So Barking managed to go in 2-1 up on the half time whistle. Half Time Barking Ladies 2 - Chigwell 1 Second half the girls were totally reluctant to lose this battle and they all came out with their boxing gloves and ready for the fight and their pressure was relentless, but have to say Barking were firing on all cylinders too. Would like to mention Courtney and Charlotte who literally worked their socks off. Half way through the second half Jen Randall managed to put us on equal peggings and then it was Chigwell who really looked like they were going to grab the winner which they did from a goal from Charlotte Brown which was then ruled disallowed by the ref for some pushing in the penalty area which was definately 50/50! With the final whistle blown it was 2-2 and the points were to be shared but honestly believe Chigwell with maybe another 5 mins would've scored and looked the most likely winners. Full time - Barking Ladies 2 - Chigwell 2 Team: Sullivan, Carey, Porter, Beechey , Randall, Brown, Higgins (Captain) , Long, Dunne, Sheridan + Rodgers.
Men of the Match: Holly Higgins who was great in this game and we lost count of how many good headers she put in, Charlotte Brown who worked relentlessly in midfield and came so close to getting her name on the scoresheet only to have it over-ruled by the ref and Courtney Dunne who came out like a little terrier in the second half. Well Done Girls. Special Mentions: Really was proud of all of you today, you all dug i,n from Erin in goal upto the frontliners. Thought Olivia was solid again in defence, Hannah who is always fired up for the Barking game to Lauren who is growing with each game she plays.
This really was a game that was a strange one and literally provided every scenario you could imagine, but most of all it was a credit to 2 girls teams who want to play football. Also thanks to Paul Stickland for coming over and running the line when he could've quite easily had a lie in considering his daughter Neamh was away for this fixture Sunday 13th February 11 - League Chelmsford City 1 - Chigwell 6 With a reduced team this weekend, off we went to face Chelmsford City for the second time this season. The girls came out all guns blazing and with much attacking coming from both the midfield and the strikers, we were one nil up in no time thanks to Harley Long who was on fire for this match. Then with a very strong corner being sent in from Olivia the home side unfortunately for them sent in an own goal, two nil up in about 5 mins. The girls were passing the ball around nicely and Meg and Hannah were sending the ball up nicely for the frontrunners and Harley managed to knock in another 2 goals before half time and it was good to see the Chigwell Girls go in half time on a high. Half Time Chelmsford City 0 - Chigwell 4 Due to unfortunate circumstances with Erin our goalie missing today's game both Harley and Holly had agreed to play one half each in the goal so for the second half Harley did the honours and Holly came out for her stint up front. Chelmsford pulled a goal back but make no doubt of this Chigwell played well from all quarters of the pitch and went on to pull another 2 goals out of the hat from Holly Higgins and Jen Randall which was good to see. We also had another 2 goals disallowed for which reasons no of us can make out (Something about one of them coming from a foul throw?????????????????? and unfortunately one was ruled offside for Ella Sheridan which would of been her first goal for the Chiggers. Full time - Chelmsford City 1 - Chigwell 6 (But we believe this should've been eight, what do you think Ella + Jen?) Team: Higgins, Carey, Stickland, Beechey , McAuliffe, Randall, Porter (Captain) , Long, Dunne, Sheridan
Man of the Match: Harley Jo Long - Well done 'Hat Trick Harley', pretty confident you could've got more if you could've played the 2nd half up front Special Mentions: Thanks to Holly and Harley for pulling together and playing in goal covering for Erin and also to the 'TEAM', GREAT PERFORMANCE GIRLS. Let's push on from here and make it count :)
Sunday 6th February 11 - League Kickstart JFC 6 - Chigwell 0 On the most blustery day that you could ever imagine, we were literally blown over to Walthamstow to play top of the league Kickstart JFC. As much as the scoreline shows that Kickstart played well and obviously deserve their top of the league placing I can only say that we were more pleased with our performance this week that the last when we picked up the 3 points with a win against Maldon Saints. Our girls certainly did not seem fazed with their reputation and Kickstart did know they had a game of football on their hands! The girls worked so hard for for the first 20/25 mins and more than held their own but 3 goals were conceeded and obviously it was going to take a lot to fight back from this against such a strong physical side in very difficult conditions. Half Time Kickstart 3 - Chigwell 0 The girls came out fighting in the second half and really did put up a gutsy performance but just couldn't pull a goal back to spur them on just a little bit more and unfortunately another 3 goals went in during the second half. Make no bones Kickstart were worthy winners but I really do think that the final scoreline does not do our little battlers justice and doesn' show what a good game of football they put up. There were times again when once again they really pass the ball around as opposed to just 'hoofing' the ball which a lot of girls teams do, so fair play girls to you all.
Full Time Kickstart JFC 6 - Chigwell 0 Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey, Stickland, Beechey , McAuliffe, Brown, Randall, Porter, Long, Higgins, Dunne, Sheridan, Rodgers.
Man of the Match: Baylee Porter, well done you. Your work rate was great. Special Mentions: Really thought that Lauren Rodgers who is the youngest girl in the side showed a lot of courage and spirit and was very pleased with her when she came on as well as Holly Higgins who looked back to the old Holly Higgins ! Want to say girls that you all did your best and please do not be put off by this defeat, you all showed there is still a lot to come from this group of young ladies if they put in hard work in training etc.
Sunday 23rd January 11 - League Chigwell 1 - Colchester Villa 4 To be honest I've been putting off typing this report as knew would find it hard, but no point only writing when something good or a win, so here goes. For the first match of 2011, it was fair to say the girls started the first half so well and was playing some really good football, but I think it's a fair assumption to say this really was a game of two halves. The passing drills that Barry has been doing really was showing dividends and Baylee Porter put us 1 nil up and it's fair to say there was good work coming from all over the pitch. Half Time Chigwell Girls 1 - Colchester Villa 0 So here we go, in the second half it really was like our girls had been replaced with another lot and Colchester Villa drew level within no time through a really silly scrambled goal. With the confidence of pulling a goal back they pushed on and all credit to them they made us pay and were not 2 but 3-1 up. The girls were not responding well to this on slaught and with an accidental own goal Colchester Villa were 4-1 up at the final whistle. I cannot really put into words how well the girls played in the first half and then how it all went to bits in the second, however positive side of things Chigwell really did show that when they stay focused they can pass the ball up there with the best of them. Full Time Chigwell 1 - Colchester Villa 4 Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey, Stickland, Beechey (Captain) , Dunne, Brown, Higgins, Porter, Randal , Long, Rodgers, Sheridan, Howard.
Scorers: Porter 1
Man of the Match: Olivia Carey - Liv thought you played ever so well and your work rate was excellent. Well done you. Special Mention: Would like to mention also Ella Sheridan who was making her debut for Chigwell and showed that with a bit more match experience will develop well as a player and is showing ethusiasm in leaps and bounds which is nice to see - Keep at it Ella
Sunday 30th January 2011 Chigwell 3 - Maldon Saints 1 League
On a cold but bright day, the girls started the game looking a bit jaded and the atmostphere of the team seemed a bit flat I felt. There were so many chances on the goal mouth I wouldn't quite like to say how many but at the moment the girls seem to have lost their 'mojo' and it almost felt at one point that the ball was never going to cross over the line, but they kept pushing and we scored two quite close together and the goals came from Harley Jo Long and Baylee Porter. Half time Chigwell 2 - Maldon Saints 0 Second half was pretty much the same and the pressure on the goal was relentless but we only managed to get another one which came from Jen Randall. Olivia made some stunning runs down the wing and put some great crosses in but we couldn't press on and get that 4th. Maldon Saints managed to claw one back with a great free kick. Therefore on the final whistle it was Chigwell that got the points. Full Time Chigwell 3 - Maldon Saints 1 Team - Sullivan (GK), Carey (Captain), Dunne, Brown, Higgins, Porter, Randall, Long, McAullife, Rodgers, Sheridan Man of the Match - Olivia Carey who worked relentlessly at the back and played some outstanding crosses/football in general Special Mention: Great to see Megs back after her injury and felt you played ever so well and looked like her old self which was very pleasing on the eye. Erin also who I feel is gaining much more confidence as the weeks go by. Well obviously we picked up a win yesterday which was much needed but have to say we need to start believing in ourselves as a team and focusing on the game and the rules of the game. Really would like to see players having a go on goal more because we literally could have scored on so many ocassions yesterday, as I said earlier I would not like to say how many chances we created and we really need to start converting a few of them.
Girls we have a long way to go yet this season and we all need to work hard in training and start getting that Chigwell spirit back because a nicer lot of girls you couldn't meet and you deserve to enjoy and do well.
Sunday 21st November 10 - Cup
Romford Borough 5 - Chigwell 1
On a very cold day, we were drawn against our local rivals Romford Borough in a cup tie. From the offset it was an interesting game and I know from the final score line it seems we were well and truly beat but what you have to take into consideration is that with 10 mins to go we were only losing 2-1! Anyway the first half Romford broke to score 2 goals putting them ahead at the half time whistle. The game was quite evenly balance despite that and Chigwell were pressing with plenty of chances themselves but couldn't seem to convert the goals. However all said and done there was a great work rate coming from all areas of the team. Half Time Romford Borough 2 - Chigwell Girls 0 This continued for much of the second half and Chigwell were showing they were not going to be a pushover and eventually after a bit of a scramble in the goal mouth Jen Randall managed to put a goal in putting us back in it. There were also some outstanding runs that came from Harley Jo on her return (Great to see you back) and also a great run from Olivia down the wing which I would like to mention. However despite all the attacking play to try and force the game into extra time, the girls got caught and Romford in the end settled the score with 3 late goals. All said and done this was a good performance from our girls. Full Time Romford Borough 5 - Chigwell 1 Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey, Stickland, Beechey , Dunne, Brown, Higgins, Porter, Randall (Captain), Long McAullife, Rodgers + Howard.
Scorers: Randall 1
Man of the Match: Holly Higgins - Well played Hols , you did everything you could on the day and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Special Mention: Would like to mention also Charlotte Brown who was just pipped to the post by Holly for the Man of the match award, you never gave up trying once. Also would add that although yes we did get beat on the day, feel the final score doesn't really show how hard our girls worked and how close they came on the day. Never mind girls let's get our heads together and concentrate on the league.
Sunday 14th November 10 - League
Runwell + Rayleigh 2 - Chigwell Girls 2
On what can only be described as a dark, dismal and very wet day, it was great to see both teams start with paying their respects for remembrance Sunday. From the first quarter it was clear to see that this was not going to be the goal fest which was displayed the previous week and the game was much tighter although do feel that Chigwell did play the more attacking football in the first half with some great touches and good passing of the ball clearly evident. (Even the opposition were heard to say this) With a couple of near misses it was Olivia who for the season has been playing in defence who broke the deadlock for Chigwell with a goal from a corner, yes a corner and our girls went in 1-0 up at half time, although we all would've liked a bigger cushion. Half Time Runwell + Rayleigh 0 - Chigwell 1 To be fair Runwell came out all guns blazing and gave it the best shot once the whistle was blown and hit back with an equalizer straight away which was obviously not the start our girls wanted. However saying this they didn't drop their heads and they kept pushing and attacking and the second finally came from Jen Randall who was all over the pitch and took a couple of bad knocks on the day. Runwell were not to be put off though and they became the attacking side and with much defending coming from Olivia and Neamh and some great saves from Erin in goal they finally got the equalizer to make it 2-2. In all honesty this game could've really gone either way and it was end to end stuff and was truly a credit to girls football on a really rough day weather wise and with the ground truly sodden. This was an old fashioned game of football. Full Time Runwell + Rayleigh 2 - Chigwell Girls 2
Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey, Stickland, Beechey , Dunne, Brown (Captain), Randall, Higgins, Porter, Randall , Rodgers + Howard. Scorers: Carey 1 + Randall 1
Man of the Match: Erin Sullivan - Well done Erin on your first accolades Well done Girls, heads up for our cup clash next week with local rivals Romford Borough
Sunday 7th November 10 - League
Chigwell Girls 6 - Barking Ladies 0
With a two week lay off and Barking coming off a good win the previous week, this could have been a potential banana skin, however our girls were off and running within no time and within the first 2 minutes of the game captain for the day Jen Randall hit home with a goal. This settled the girls very nicely and they were buzzing around the pitch with great football coming from all directions. Chigwell did not let the Barking Ladies settle at all during the first half and our attacking play must have accounted for 85% of the first 35 minutes. With Jen hitting home again with a great goal, Baylee Porter hitting two in herself and with a great shot from Neamh Stickland the girls were five nil up at half time and it was great to see such a goal fest. One point that we can't forget also is that Erin Sullivan in goal pulled off a great penalty save to stop Barking pulling a goal back, well done Erin, who is growing in confidence each week! Half Time Chigwell 5 - Barking Ladies 0 Barking made a few changes in the second half but the girls kept pushing and have to say there was some great football coming from all quarters from Olivia and Neamh who were rock solid at the back, the midfield lot of Charlotte, Hannah , Holly, Megs + Courtney who literally ran their legs off during both halves and even when changes were made with Lauren and Hayley coming on they soon got stuck in, going for headers etc. The game was finished nicely with Jen getting another goal to grab herself another hat-trick. This on the whole was a great team performance from Erin in goal who kept a clean sheet to Jen + Baylee up front, enough said as both myself and Barry were very pleased with the style of football that the girls played. Full Time Chigwell 6 - Barking Ladies 0 Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey, Stickland, Beechey , Dunne, Brown, Higgins, Porter, Randall (Captain), McAullife, Rodgers + Howard. Scorers: Randall 3, Porter 2 + Stickland 1 (Well done Neamh on your first goal) Man of the Match: The whole team, too many outstanding performances
Sunday 17th October 10 - League
Chigwell Girls 3 - Kickstart JFC 6
Another eventful report and this time writing it with our first defeat of the season, although have to say there were some really pleasing things in this game and as we are all aware you can't win all the time, however did feel the only winner today was girls football in general as it was a great game and have to say Kickstart were fair winners. Kickstart started confident on the back of their 13 nil win the week before and have to say Chigwell looked sluggish in the first quarter of the game. Kickstart took advantage of this and were three nil up at one time however Holly Higgins who played a blinder in this game brought it back to three one. Unfortunately during this half our little trojan Harley picked up a bad injury from a strong tackle which will see her out for about 4 weeks, so this was a sickener for us too. Half Time Chigwell 1 - Kickstart JFC 3 We got off to the worse possible start in the second half with Kickstart knocking another one in to put us 4 1 down, however the girls dug deep and will a good pass starting with Hannah, Holly knocked in a great goal putting us back in the game. The girls fought on and we then went onto win a penalty which Jen calmly took and put us well and truly back in it at 4-3. Unfortunately it was not to be on the day and Kickstart eventually came out 6-3 winners. Full Time 3-6 Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey (Captain) , Stickland, Beechey , Randall, McAulliffe, Long, Higgins, Porter, Brown, Rodgers, Dunne + Howard.
Scorers: Higgins (2) + Randall (1 Penalty)
Man of the Match: Holly Higgins - Holly you showed great spirit and really did well today Hols, a couple of great goals too. Special Mentions: Would like to mention Erin, who pulled off some really good saves and you were a close runner up for man of the match today. You will only continue to improve Erin and with match experience it's clear to see this will come. Well done. Charlotte think you worked hard today and really did your best. Megan in the second half showed the 'Megan' spirit. Have to mention our little Harley again who has made such a great start to the 10/11 campaign and you will be missed. Hurry up and get well. From Kelly, Barry and all your Chigwell Team Mates XXXX Onwards and Upwards Chigwell Girls let's get back in the winning way next week.
Sunday 10th October 10 - League
Colchester Villa 1 - Chigwell Girls 1
Not really sure what I can write about this match, other than I was very proud of the courage and the grit these girls showed on a rather fraught day. The omens were not looking good when we arrived and the goals were still being assembled, the grass was ten foot high (ok slight exaggeration) and game delayed by nearly 40 minutes. This was one hard physical match from the opening whistle and the girls knew this was a much harder game than they had faced this season thus far. Colchester came out obviously knowing this would be a major scalp to take if they beat us today and was coming forward in the first half of the game, but with a great pass from Olivia, Jen Randall struck gold and the girls were in front. Chigwell starting to pick their game up, started to fight back however a bad tackle on Harley seeing her going off for a while did not help. Colchester pushing the girls all the way responded with a goal, making it 1-1. With the second half under way, the game was becoming much more physical and have to say the defence more than had their work cut out. With another bad tackle on Hannah from the same player who fouled Harley-Jo, it is fair to say this was one game that was just not enjoyable for any of us at Chigwell. Full Time 1-1 Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey (Captain) , Stickland, Beechey , Randall, Long, Porter, Brown, Rodgers, Higgins + Howard.
Scorers: Randall (1)
Man of the Match: Olivia Carey - Olivia you were outstanding today and so strong against a very difficult side in a very difficult game. Very proud of you as you have more than put your stamp in defence, which up until 4-5 games ago you had never played before. We have watched you play for nearly 4 years and never once dreamed you could make this position yours but you have, how did we miss this! Excellent work rate. Special Mentions: Girls, remember you still remain unbeaten and we have to put this game and what happened behind us. We have to concentrate on all that is good and carry on pushing and stay strong as a team, and you are a good team remember that! We have lots of different characters within it but when you all pull together and play as one unit, you are a credit to us. When you all needed to dig in today, you did. Harley showed such courage coming back on after a particularly nasty foul and didnt wince once from her duties. Jen who is a natural forward was back defending when she could helping her team mates with also a particularly strong tackle on the offending player! I could go on and on but I wont, you all played your part on the day. Onwards and Upwards Chigwell Girls
Sunday 3rd October 10 - League
Chigwell Girls 5 - Upland Rangers 2
On the back of our 2 opening wins, we knew this game was going to be tougher against a reformed 'Springfield' side who now go by the name of Upland Rangers. It took the girls a little time to settle today and in the first 10 minutes it would be fair to say they looked a little lack-lustre, however with Upland taking the lead and putting us one nil down, our girls hit back within the minute and Harley Jo was on the scoresheet again making it level peggings. With this to spur them on, they picked up their game and started passing the ball about nicely. With a strong back line up of Neamh and Olivia the girls were working hard not to get caught and before the half time whistle blew, Harley stuck the ball in the net again making in two - one. Half Time Chigwell 2 - Upland Rangers 1 It was important that the girls stayed focused and came out strong because Uplands were not going to take this lying down, however with some good shots saved by Erin and countless attacks coming from the forwards of Baylee, Harley and Jen it was Baylee who scored putting us 3-1 up. (Baylee you looked like you were gonna score all morning, so it was good to see this converted) The workrate had to stay at 110% as when Uplands broke they did look strong, but with Hannah backing Neamh + Olivia the girls continued to push and Jen made it 4-1. With the game well into the last quarter, Hannah who was captain took her chance and hit a cracker to put us 5-1 up. With the game looking like it was definately Chigwell's day, Uplands took a good shot to make the final score 5-2. to the Chigwell Girls. Excellent girls 3 out of 3! Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey, Stickland, Beechey (Captain), McAulliffe, Randall, Dunne, Long, Porter, Brown, Rodgers + Howard.
Scorers: Long (2), Porter (1), Randall (1) and Beechey (1)
Man of the Match: Neamh Stickland, rock solid performance Neamh with some great balls supplied. You looked very confident and sure of your game today, excellent! Special Mentions: Have to say once again, strong team performance from all the girls who are becoming such a good little team. Erin pulling of some great saves and starting to look more confident and playing her part in our team. Outstanding workrate of Neamh + Olivia who is supplying some great passes onto the midfield and forwards. Midfield of Hannah, Megs, Jen, Courtney, Lauren ,Hayley + Charlotte pushing and battling all the time, with Baylee and Harley chasing all the time for the next goal. Girls, let's keep concentrating and looking to improve our game with lots of hard training and fitness and who knows what we could achieve in this 2010/11 season. WELL DONE
Sunday 26th September 10 - League
Maldon Saints 1 - Chigwell Girls 5 With the girls ready to make the most of their excellent start last week, off we all went to Maldon on quite a windy, blustery day. With a few players down this week, the starting line up were not to be fazed and got off to an excellent start straight away and this was just as well we would be fighting the elements in the second half! Harley Jo struck her first goal of the new season and was off and running in no time. Within a couple of minutes, Chigwell were rewarded with a penalty which Jen Randall quickly converted. Two nil within first 10 mins! Another 2 goals from Harley and Jen with great work coming again from the long balls from Olivia and also the excellent hard work in midfield we were 4 -1 up at half time as Maldon managed to pull a goal back with a 'dubious' penalty. Four - One to the Chigwell at half time. Now playing against the wind also, this half was always going to be a bit harder than the first, but the girls continued to push and never gave up. With great chances falling to Baylee, Jen and Lauren, but it was Harley who managed to get her hat trick making it 5-1 on the day. Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey, Rodgers, Stickland, Beechey, Brown, Long, Porter (Captain), Randall + Dunne.
Men of the Match: Great team work but it's goes to not one, or two but three of the girls this week, who gave it everything they had. Olivia Carey, Hannah Beechey and Harley Jo Long - Well done girls Special Mentions: Have to say once again, strong team performance and great to see the girls pulling together. Obviously the men of the match were Olivia, Hannah and Harley who played out of their skins and that is why the 'men of the match' accolades go to them this week, but got to say all the girls were excellent in their own right, Neamh with her strong tackles, Charlotte who never gave up trying and Courtney who was like a little terrier who was facing up to one of the biggest girls on the pitch and didnt let it bother her at all. Baylee and Lauren who both contributed and came very close to scoring and well done Jen who had faced a particularly tough week for coming out and giving her usual polished performance. Erin, not forgetting you, great to see you encouraging your team mates and great try with the penalty which was well took by the opposition. Thanks Holly with her broken fingers and Jackie for their support on the day.
Sunday 19th September 10 - League Chigwell Girls 8 - Chelmsford City 1 Well with this being our first game of the new 2010/11 season, I think it was fair to say the girls really pulled it out of the bag today and put their stamp on the league with a very convincing win. With a very different looking team from the previous season, the girls really pulled and gelled together in this match and can only say that I hope they serve us up with plenty more of this style of play for what is going to be a much longer season than the previous. With a forward line up consisting of Holly Higgins and Bailee Porter and Jen Randall close behind in a midfield position today, we were looking strong within no time and Bailee put us 1 nil up within 7 mins. Jen not to be outdone on her birthday followed it up quickly and put us two in front within 10 minutes of the game. Then it really was a goal fest and with Jen putting in another 3 and another from Bailee, we went in 6 nil up on the half time whistle. In the second half we were to see another 2 goals coming from Jen who was now on a double hat-trick and Chelmsford managed to get a consolation goal bringing the final score in at 8-1 to the home team in yellow and blue. Team: Sullivan (GK), Carey, Rodgers, Stickland, Beechey, McAulliffe, Randall (Captain), Higgins, Porter, Brown, Dunne + Howard Man of the Match: Jen Randall - Well done, excellent start with 6 goals Special Mentions: Have to say it was an excellent start and obviously Jen and Bailee did very well with their goals but would like to also mention Olivia Carey who I thought had an excellent game in defence and really did put forward quite a few balls /passes which resulted in goals. Also thought Hannah Beechey played very strong in midfield as well. Would like to thank Erin Sullivan also who has stepped up this season to be our goalkeeper and hope she enjoys her first season with us. Girls we spoke at the beginning of the game and still believe that this special little group of 'now young ladies' has a lot to offer the Under 13's B league this season and can only say that myself and Barry wish you all the luck in the world and with lots of training and hard work we hope to do well. I truly do believe we have a strong team spirit which can only serve us well. Thank you also to Jule + Paul Beechey for their efforts with the raffle.
Saturday 24th July 10 - Friendly Springfield 0 - Chigwell 1 In what had been a very eventful week, the troops rallied together and went down to play Springfield in a friendly. With a couple of departures and also 3 1st team players on holiday the team really pulled together, with girls playing out of position and girls playing their first game this was going to be a test for sure. However saying all that they truly pulled out all the stops to pull off a very good and character building effort to see Chigwell avenge their narrow defeat by Springfield previously. With good attacking play coming from Jen + Harley Jo it had to be a matter of time before a goal did go in, and eventually Chigwell were given a penalty which although was not converted on first attempt saw Jen Randall knocking in on the rebound which gave the girls the only goal during a very lively match. With a solid defensive performance coming from Captain Olivia Carey backed up by Erin Sullivan and a great debut by Lauren Rogers, Springfield were to be denied any real chance of scoring. There was also a very encouraging performance given by Charlotte Brown who ran her legs off backed up by Hannah Beechey, Neamh Stickland and a great first game also from Courtney Dunne. Final Score Springfield 0 - Chigwell 1 Team - Higgins, Carey (Captain), Stickland, Beechey, Brown, Sullivan, Long, Randall, Brown, Rogers, Dunne. Man of the Match: Charlotte Brown - You Played excellent Charlotte, so pleased with your performance. Special Mentions: To Holly Higgins for stepping in and putting her team first as a stand in goalie until we find a replacement and also to Olivia who played out of her usual position due to 2 defenders being away. Lauren, Courtney and Erin for stepping in to give a good team effort today and not showing any sign of nerves whatsoever. Let's move on and take a lot from this game because you still got the result considering we were down on numbers on the day. This is going to be an interesting season with still a lot to come from this very special group of girls.
Sunday 27th June 10 - Friendly Woodpecker 0 - Chigwell 5 In what can only be described as the hottest day of the year, we trecked over the Dartford Bridge and made our way to the village of Hoo to play a friendly game against Woodpecker. We were told the girls were the year above us but have to say the general feeling was that we were playing a team with players in with more than a years difference! The girls moved the ball around well and the work rate was good and we were 1-0 up thanks to Shellie Sumpter who was guesting for us for the game. However Jen Randall and Harley Jo Long soon made it 3-0 to the girls in Yellow and Blue, with Shellye adding her name to the score sheet again, therefore the girls went in 4-0 up after the first 15 mins quarter. The game was physical to say the least with Amber Stokes taking a knock and all the Chigwell girls were definately giving as good as they got from a very physical side. In the 2nd quarter Shelly made it 5-0 getting her hat-trick and the girls were controlling the game well with good attacking play and also strong defensive play coming from Eleanor and Hayley making her debut at the back. The 3rd quarter saw the Woodpecker girls coming back into the game but they were denied a goal due to great team play from all the girls. In the final quarter our girls seemed to get second wind and Holly Higgins had at least a couple of good chance to make it as least seven nil but the game finally settled with a five nil win to the 'Chiggers' Final Score Woodpecker 0 - Chigwell 5 Team - Bayley, Webb, Hayley ? , Stokes, Sumpter, Stickland, Beechey, Carey, Long, Randall, Porter, Higgins, Brown.
Joint Men of the Match: Shellie Sumpter + Eleanot Webb - Well Done You Two Special Mentions: To all the team for pulling together and getting a good win in a 'hard not so friendly' match. Thanks to Amber Stokes and Shellie Sumpter for playing and you know you are both always welcome to play for the team in yellow and blue. Hayley + Baylee who both played well, you are both very welcome to Chigwell Girls. Also to the whole team for playing and giving us a good game of football in very difficult circumstances as was so, so hot. Well Done Girls, lets train hard during the summer months and have a great coming season in the Under 13's league. | |
