Chigwell Boys B 2007-2008 Mini Soccer Match Reports Chigwell Boys B 3 - 1 Barns Sports B 9th Mar 2008 The game was barely 10 seconds old and we found ourselves a goal down. The boys had to put in a display that throughout the season had been enough to win games comfortably. They didn’t disappoint either as Ryley Fuller pulled the strings in midfield winning ball after ball and feeding Connor Gol down the right. Connor supplied some great balls into the box but Carl Castor couldn’t capitalise, on another day Carl would have been celebrating a 1st half hat trick. Chigwell knew they were on top, yet the score line did not reflect this, Robert Platt weaved down the left and sent a ball into the box PENALTY! Here was our chance to level the score, and with great composure Connor G dispatched the ball into the corner. The half time whistle blew shortly afterwards
A rousing half time team talk (by yours truly) & some tactical changes and we were ready to commence. I've never seen the boys as up for it, as they showed in this game, and bar an excellent save from Ben Holland never looked like losing. James Rees put in his usual blood & guts performance which was rewarded with an effort from inside their half which found the net, albeit with the help of a bum, back or something, who cares Chigwell had got there selves a worthy lead which they weren't about to give up. After some good build up play from Billy Arter, Reece Chasey found himself on the edge of the box and coolly slotted the ball home, game over... With other results going our way this win guarantees us at least 2nd spot, and with a bit of luck 1st. either way it has been a very good season and everyone should feel really proud, i know i do!!!!

Chigwell Boys B 1 - 2 Belmont Juniors 2nd Mar 2008 Belmont snatched an early goal which caught Chigwell off guard, The boys dug deep to get the score level but they were un done by some good wing play that resulted in their hosts lead being doubled. Chigwell were stunned, but knew that they had time to turn things around.Half way in James Rees unleashed a rocket that nearly broke the net from his own half,Game on. The boys did their best to get the equaliser but a well organised Belmont side were worthy of the 3 points against a below par Chigwell side. On a brighter note, the ever reliable Connor Fowler put in a performance beyond his 9 years. Well done. Team: Ben, Reece, James, Billy, Robert, Connor F, Jack, Carl, Ryley, Connor G MOM:Connor F Goalscorer:James
Belmont Juniors 1 – 1 Chigwell Boys B 24th Feb 2008 Chigwell knew that had to win this one to keep their slim title hope alive. Faced with a dogged Belmont side and a pitch resembling the north face of the Eiger this wasn’t going to be easy. Playing down the slope in the 1st half the boys had to make sure the passing was good as anything else would see the ball out of play. Despite some good chances and a string of well taken corners the half finished goalless.
Chigwell started the 2nd half determined to get the breakthrough and despite playing up hill kept the ball in their oppositions half. Amazingly it was the hosts that broke the deadlock when we gave away a free kick just inside our own half; sloppy defending aided a rather fortuitous goal. Enter super sub (OLE GUNNER PLATT) who popped up and stuck the ball away for a well deserved point.

Chigwell Boys B 1-1 Tigers B 17th Feb After the disappointment of losing last week the boys had a chance to get back to winning ways. But a tenacious Tigers had other plans, their back line was strong which limited Chigwells chances in the 1st half. In the 2nd half we seemed to have more chances and Reece Chasey run his heart all game and went close to scoring a couple of times from corners. Billy Arter was his usual self with jinking runs down the left. Jack Hennessey put in a man of the match display as he marshalled the back line with maturity, but it was Robert Platt, doing what all good strikers do by being in the right place at the right time and finishing off a neat cross from Billy. The Goal look like being the winner until Tigers final kick of the game, a speculative effort which dropped under the crossbar. Team: Ben, Reece, James, Billy, Robert, Connor F, Jack, Carl, Ryley, Connor G Soccer Skills 4 – 2 Chigwell Boys B 10th Feb 2008 Chigwell suffered only their 2nd defeat of the season in this entertaining match. Soccer skills found themselves a goal up 1 minute in and soon doubled their lead from the spot. Chigwell fought hard to get back into the match and was duly obliged courtesy of a beautifully worked goal, which was finished off by Billy Arter. In the 2nd half seven man Chigwell threw everything at the opposition as man of the match Reece Chasey lead the way. Ryley Fuller and Conner Gol both saw efforts go agonizingly close but as they pushed forward the gaps appeared at the back which allowed Soccer skills to score a third. Conner Fowler had one of his best ever games in a yellow shirt and looked assured all game, as did Jack Hennessey who joined in the attack with some good runs down the right. Chigwell’s probing did pay off as they once again pegged back the deficit as the on form Billy Arter found the net again. Tired legs and the will to win pulled Chigwell out of shape and led to Skills 4th goal minutes from time, which effectively killed the game off. I could not of asked more of the boys as EVERYONE put in 100%. They all should feel very proud, they represented their club impeccably. Team: Ben, Reece, Billy, Connor F, Jack, Ryley, Connor G MOM:Reece Goalscorer:Billy (2)
Chigwell Boys B 3 – 0 Byron Red Star B 3rd Feb 2008 Both teams struggled against the swirling wind and it was the home side that adapted quickest in the difficult conditions, firing shot after shot at the Byron keeper, who was in fine form. The half finished 0-0 much to the annoyance of Chigwell who had their visitors on the ropes. The 2nd half started in similar fashion and it was captain Ryley fuller that finished of a fine move to open the scoring. Jack Hennessy & Reece Chasey were solid at the back and Robert platt put in a sturdy display up front but it was Ryley who stole the show and capped off his man of match performance with a Ronaldo like free kick into the top corner. Billy Arter scored his 8th goal of the season as he finished off the move of the match with a fine strike into the bottom corner. Team: Ben, Reece, James, Billy, Robert, Connor F, Jack, Carl, Ryley, Connor G MOM:Ryley Goalscorers:Ryley (2), Billy
Westward Boys 0 - 3 Chigwell Boys B 27th Jan 2008 Early kick offs and Chigwell Boys don’t normally make for a good result, add in a trip to Victoria park meant this was going to be a difficult game. The first 10 minutes saw both sides share the possession with no clear cut chances to speak of. Eventually Chigwell woke up and showed why they were league leaders when the industrious Robert Platt latched on to a slide rule pass by Connor Gol and calmly finished pass the on rushing keeper. Chigwell were the better side in the 2nd half as their passing and movement created chance after chance. Carl Castor chased every ball up front and his hard work was rewarded 10 minutes in when he capitalised on a mistake by the keeper to net the 2nd. Every Chigwell player wanted to add his name to the score sheet as they pressed forward, but it was left to Man of the match Connor Gol to cap an impressive display with a fine solo effort minutes from time.

Chigwell Boys B 3 - 0 Tigers C 20th Jan 2008 Chigwell Boys played host to the league leaders, knowing that a win would see them top the table. It was the home side that settled in to the game early on and some good ball possession ensured that most of the play was in the Tigers half. James combined well with Ryley down the right hand side; Billy worked the left flank in similar fashion. It was clinical passing that led to Ryley finishing off a great move to open the scoring for Chigwell. The lead was doubled soon after when Carl found himself unmarked in the penalty area and cheekily chipped the keeper from close range. Tigers had a chance to close the deficit from the spot before half time but was denied by resident Chigwell stopper Ben Holland. The 2nd half started rather slow as both teams could not keep the ball long enough to threaten either goal. Tigers had no choice but to push on and get something from the game.Chigwell exploited the gaps at the back and were always the more likely of the two teams to score and on 30 minutes debutant Connor Gol swung in a corner which saw Reece rise the highest to thump home our first headed goal. All in all a great TEAM performance, well done everyone! Team: Ben, Reece, James, Billy, Robert, Connor F, Jack, Carl, Ryley, Connor G. MOM:Reece Goalscorer :Ryley,Carl,Reece.
Emh C 0 - 2 Chigwell Boys B 13th Jan 2008 Chigwell battled hard against a much improved EMH side; this wasn’t going to be a repeat of the 8-0 drumming Chigwell handed out at the beginning of the season. Chigwell fought hard to get the ball down and play football on a muddy surface as the Wind & the pitch had a big part to play in this entertaining match. For all of the possession that the boys had, they hardly troubled the EMH goal. The 2nd half started much the same as the 1st half ended, but as the pitch took its toll on the boy’s legs it was Chigwell, through man of the match James Rees that opened the scoring on 30 minutes. EMH carved out a couple of chances for themselves but with a couple of minutes to go James Rees stabbed the ball home to see of any chance EMH might have had.

Chigwell Boys B 0 - 0 Jays Boys 6th Jan 2008 Chigwell started the New Year against Draw specialists Jays, and predictably the result was a 0-0. A below strength Jays stood resolute as Chigwell chucked everything bar the proverbial kitchen sink at them. The Jays keeper pulled off a string of fine saves as man of the match James Rees carried the fight to Jays and saw several chances saved. Ryley Fuller, who worked tirelessly down the wing also saw chances blocked on the line on what was a fustrating afternoon for Chigwell. Sturdy displays by Jack Hennessey & Connor Fowler at the back ensured Ben Holland had a comfortable time between the sticks.

Bealonians B 0 Chigwell Boys B 2 16th Dec 2007 This was always going to be a decisive fixture for Chigwell as Bealonians have enjoyed good form of late.We knew we had to be at our best to get anything from this game and the boys did not dissapoint. It was Chigwell that started the brighter and passed the ball around with ease creating chance after chance.James Rees dominated the defence and his tenacious tackling meant the Bealonians attacks were virtually non existent. The breakthorugh came when Robert Platt(MOM) reacted quickest to Ryley Fuller's free kick into the penalty box to net the opener.
Chigwell had to absorb some early 2nd half pressure from Bealonians as they tried to get back into the game with a succession of corners, Yet again the Chigwell defence could not be breached. Chigwell moved up a gear and created chances every time they went up field, Billy Arter led the front line with some fine play but it was Ryley Fuller who settled this tie (and a few parents nerves) with the move of the match after some beautiful one touch passing and a shot worthy of the premiership. This was Chigwell at their best & a great way to end the year.
Team: Ben, Reece, James, Billy, Robert, Connor, Jack, Carl, Ryley . MOM:Robert Goalscorer :Robert,Ryley
Chigwell Boys B 1 Senrab A 10 2nd Dec 2007 This was David versus Goliath as Premiership Senrab came to town. Despite being 5 divisions below Chigwell boys started the brighter and opened the scoring in the 2nd minute courtesy of a Billy Arter Strike, Carl Castor got the deftest of touches and like any good striker will be laying claim to it. Senrab clicked up a gear and went into the break 4 goals to the good. Our boys fought valiantly in the 2nd half, but in the end Senrab’s strength and experience told. A brave effort on our part and all the boys should feel proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout.
Team: Ben, Reece, James, Billy, Robert, Connor, Jack, Carl, Ryley . MOM:Carl Goalscorer :Carl
Tigers B 0 Chigwell Boys B 1 18th Nov 2007 Both teams battled hard against the elements on a wind swept day, Chigwell also had to play up the slope in the 1st half which limited their chances to threaten the Tigers goal. Chigwell came out the 2nd half the brighter of the two teams and played the ball around in the oppositions half but failed to get enough shots on target. One goal was always going to be enough to settle this one, and it was Chigwell with some beautiful build up play down the right hand side courtesy of Carl Castor & Robert Platt that allowed Billy Arter to finish a great move and add to his tally for the season. Chigwell should have spared the late nerves & put this one to bed with chances late on. Connor Fowler( MOM) deserves special praise as his faultless display in the heart of the defence ensured Tigers late efforts to salvage a point were thwarted.

Chigwell B 1 Soccer Skills A 1 11th Nov 2007 Chigwell started slowly against a strong & experienced Soccer Skills side. Chigwell eventually woke up, but as they pressed forward gaps appeared at the back, despite some last ditch defending from Jack Hennessey (MOM) and Connor Fowler, Soccer Skills broke the dead lock. The 2nd half was not for the faint hearted as both teams went at it hammer & tong. James Rees was up for this one and lead the way with tackle after tackle which lifted the team. Chigwell's pressure was finally rewarded when Ryley Fuller's corner evaded everyone except James who sneaked in on the back post to level. A fine passing move nearly resulted in what surely would have been goal of the season as Jack saw his last minute rocket cannon of the crossbar. Goalkeeper Ben Holland also deserves praise as his impressive display ensured Chigwell remained in the game. All in all a draw was a fair result. Team : Ben, James, Jack, Ryley, Connor, Robert, Carl, Reece, Billy MOM : Jack Goalscorer :James
Byron Red Star 0 Chigwell B 2 4th Nov 2007
A goal in each half by Captain Billy Arter was enough to claim the 3 points on offer. The 1st goal was started in Chigwell’s own half, the ball was moved up field with some quick passing between Ryley Fuller (MOM) & Carl Castor, who crossed for Billy to sweep the ball into the bottom corner. Chigwell put the pressure on the opposition’s goal but could not get the ball in the net. More of the same followed in the 2nd half before Billy netted his 2nd with a fine solo effort. Chigwell dominated possession which limited Byron’s efforts, and made sure the Chigwell defence were hardly troubled.

Chigwell B 2 Westward Boys 1 28th Oct 2007 Chigwell’s good form continues. The home side had most of the ball and cut through the oppositions defence with some slick passing, but due to some stubborn defending and an on form keeper failed to convert any of their 1st half possession into goals. Chigwell started the 2nd half as they finished the 1st and continued to dominate; their perseverance was finally rewarded when Billy Arter weaved his way through several defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. More free flowing football followed and chance after chance went by before James Rees settled the tie from close range. Westward Boys pulled a goal back with a minute to go but it was too little too late as Chigwell cruised to their 4th straight win. Team : Ben, James, Jack, Ryley, Connor, Robert, Carl, Reece, Billy MOM : Billy Goalscorer's : Billy, James
Tigers B 2 Chigwell B 2 21st Oct 2007 (Chigwell win on penalties) Despite some good play and resolute defending Chigwell went into the break a goal down. Tigers came out the stronger team and doubled their lead. Chigwell had a mountain to climb but through hard work and excellent passing they got the breakthrough 5 minutes from time; Ryley Fuller & Carl castor combining well to allow Reece Chasey to open their account. With the tie slipping from Chigwell's grasp, Step up James Rees to slot home the equaliser with virtually the last kick. Chigwell were in fine mood for the penalty shoot out & with Reece scoring his penalty & Chigwell stopper Ben Holland saving all 4 of Tigers spot kicks the pressure fell to Ryley, who stepped up and calmly dispatched his penalty beyond reach, and for Tigers, so was this tie. A typical display of never say die football. WELL DONE THE BOYS. Team : Ben, James, Jack, Ryley, Connor, Robert, Carl, Reece, Billy MOM : Ben Goalscorer's : Reece, James
Tigers C 0 Chigwell B 1 14th Oct 2007
Chigwell came to to this game knowing that they had to play the league leaders away from home. The game started slowly but it was Chigwell’s fluid passing that finally unlocked the Tigers defence in a brilliant move started by Ryley Fuller who played the ball into Robert who in turn layed it off to Billy to slot home past the Tigers keeper. In the 2nd half Chigwell played the ball around with confidence and went close to sealing the win. Jack Hennessey defended excellently throughout ensuring his goalkeeper Ben had little to do.
